Wiki Wiki

Perhaps one of the most overlooked features in SharePoint is the built-in Wiki functionality.  They are simple page libraries with powerful linking capabilities that make them ideal for all sorts of business data tracking.
It’s easy to start and easy to maintain. I like to reuse the home page that MS provides, but editing it and clearing out the contents.  A simple title and I’m ready to start my first paragraph which for this demonstration, I’ll use the premise of building a simple description of network resources.
XYZ Computing’s internal network is comprised of 3 servers called Luke, Leia & Han.  We have one SonicWall router and one Cisco Managed Switch.
Simple enough.  Now let’s unleash the power of the Wiki! By double bracketing any word we tell SharePoint to link to a document of that name.  If the document doesn’t exist, SharePoint will automatically create it when the word is clicked on.  I’ll start with the word “SonicWall.”
XYZ Computing’s internal network is comprised of 3 servers called Luke, Leia & Han.  We have one SonicWall router and one Cisco Managed Switch.
Sharepoint changes to color of the work to indicate it’s become a link!  Now I can click it, and start on my next page and a new paragraph with details about the SonicWall!
The SonicWall is a critical component of XYZ’s network.  It routes traffic for out Terminal connections, Website access and controls our wireless network.
For this paragraph I would link “XYZ’s Network” back to my home page and link “Terminal”, “Website”, and “Wireless Access” to pages of their own.  Soon I’ll have a comprehensive set of documents, interlinked with one another and as detailed as I want to go!
